OFSTED Report 'Good'
From our Principle, Emma Reynolds "I am writing to share our Ofsted report following the inspection held on 4th and 5th October 2023. Ofsted shine spotlights on key areas nationally and are currently interested in how all schools deliver the curriculum, how students are supported with their personal development and how schools deal with bullying. Our judgment in all areas continues to be good; we have many positives highlighted in the inspection report: our wide-ranging curriculum, celebration of reading, accurate support for students with SEND, personal development education and careers. Sixth form expectations are high, with students well supported and well prepared for adult life when they leave College.

Whilst we enjoyed Frome Carnival at the weekend, our Year 11 Silver DofE students braved the wind, rain and challenging conditions on the Black Mountains, to complete their expedition. They showed outstanding teamwork and resilience throughout the 3 days - great work #teamfromecollege ! Special thanks to the staff and volunteers who gave up their weekend to support and supervise the students, especially Mrs Blofeld who even lent out her own walking boots! If you would like more info on the DofE Award scheme there will be a stand at our Open Evening, this coming Thursday, in the outside classroom.

Farewell to Frome College Stalwart
Today we said a huge "thank you and happy retirement" to a Frome College stalwart, Welfare Officer and First Aider, Heather Cox. After 24 years of dealing with grazed knees, broken hearts and empty tummies, Heather decided the time was right to put herself and her family at the forefront of her attention. Her announcement has been greeted by an overwhelming amount of "thanks you"s from both former and current parents, students and staff. Heather will be very much missed.

GCSE and BTEC Results 2023
It is surprising that the Government has chosen to reintroduce normal marking patterns with a cohort who have clearly not experienced regular key stage four years. In the context of this decision and the many challenges this year group has faced, we are very proud of each and every individual and the results all have received today. 304 students have taken a total of 2495 qualifications and have gained some fantastic levels in a wide range of subjects. We are particularly proud of the overall outcomes in Mathematics, Religion and Philosophy, Health and Social Care, Sport, Art, Photography, Textiles, Biology, Physics, Media, Music, Drama and Children’s Learning.

A Level Results Day
Regardless of the challenges this year group has faced and the Government’s decision to return to pre pandemic standards, our sixth form students have received some excellent results this summer. The fact that our students have achieved so well is credit to their determination, hard work and the support of families and College staff. Many students in many subjects achieved very well but we must single out the following subjects for exceptional results: Art, Business, Health and Social Care, Mathematics, Sport, Psychology, Photography and Textiles. In total 133 Frome College students sat examinations for 365 qualifications across 30 subjects, below are the percentages of grades with a comparison to 2019 in brackets.

Debate Day
Frome College Year 9 and Year 10 students welcomed Years 8s from two of our feeder schools to an event which they had been looking forward to – Debate Day. Having practised, prepared and honed their debating skills at the Thursday after school debate club meets, as well as participating in the Rotary Club’s Youth Speaks competition, our Year 9s and 10s were all set to familiarise Oakfield and Avanti students with the techniques and strategies they would need to excel at this brain-stretching exercise. Needless to say our younger friends distinguished themselves very quickly, as they assimilated and utilised techniques to win through the early heats at the start of the day. There was much laughter and mirth as many of the Year 8s showed off their skills, discussing such topics as the ethics of using artificial intelligence in schools, animal testing , and in our final- ‘Why everyone should watch ‘Love Island’ to learn about relationships’.
