  • Statement regarding Matthew Jones, Sociology & History Teacher

    As you may be aware from the media, one of our members of staff, Matthew Jones, Sociology and History teacher has been charged by police following an incident in Bath on Monday 26th February. Please be assured this was not in any way related to Frome College nor our College community and there are no safeguarding concerns. We will write specifically to those students and families whose lessons are affected. These will be covered, especially exam classes, with specialist teachers where possible.

  • Sell-Out Success for Frome College Production of ‘Grease The Musical’

    The recent production of the classic musical Grease by the students of Frome College was a smash-hit success playing to packed houses during its run at The Merlin Theatre last week. Under the expert direction of Artistic Director Claudia Pepler and the musical direction of Helen Ostafew-Temmink, the show completely sold-out during its 4 night engagement. Audience members were treated to the sounds of a live student orchestra, whilst anchoring the show with star power performances were Sydney D. as Danny and Violett A.

  • Physics Students Shine in Olympiad

    Our Science students have achieved outstanding results in prestigious physics competitions this year. In the Physics Olympiad, year 13 student Gareth E. qualified for the gold level in the first round - a top accomplishment as only the top 5.9% of participants reach gold. He now has the opportunity to advance to the second round and potentially earn a coveted spot at the Oxford training camp.

  • Students Excel in Sports Leadership Course

    A group of Sports students have successfully completed the Level 2 Award in Sports Leadership, demonstrating their proficiency in key leadership and communication skills. The practical course focuses on developing organization, motivation, and communication abilities, while also emphasizing positive role models in sports and mentoring others. Students learn how to apply leadership skills in diverse settings. The Level 2 qualification is comparable to GCSEs at grades A*-C or 4-9.

  • Work Experience a Huge Success!

    Our year 10 students had an incredible week gaining real-world experience during our annual work experience programme. This year a huge 91% of students secured placements across over 100 companies and organisations, with one intrepid student even travelling to Germany for her placement! Students tried their hands at a diverse range of jobs and career paths, including tractor repairs, coffin building, car dealerships, schools, pottery studios, and retail stores. They gained valuable insights into potential careers, learned new skills, and built professional connections within the community.

  • Young Students Captivated by Action-Packed Science Session

    A group of pupils from Hayesdown First School were treated to an exhilarating science experience when they visited us earlier this week. The young students were guided through a series of lively experiments by the school's year 12 science students. From visualizing sound waves to witnessing dramatic chemical reactions, the hands-on science activities sparked imagination and engagement. "They were completely engaged and full of excitement about STEM subjects - which was exactly the hope!" said Ms. Bish, our hosting science teacher.

  • Students Thrive in Warm Space Cooking Project

    We're excited to share an update on our Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership - SASP funded #warmspace projects! Over the last few weeks, students have been learning cooking skills, after school has ended, by making meals to take home and feed their families. Last week, the students made homemade burgers - they crafted burger buns from scratch, formed patties, and cooked up one burger to enjoy right then and there. The other burgers they each made were wrapped up to take home and share.

  • Teacher Recognised in National Anti-Bullying Awards

    For Anti-Bullying Week 2023, the Anti-Bullying A Anti-Bullying Alliance lliance held their School Staff Awards, where pupils can nominate teachers and school staff that have gone above and beyond the call of duty to prevent and respond to bullying, and to raise awareness of bullying in school. Competition this year was stiff - with over 400 nominations across the UK. School staff were surprised with the award during 'A nti-bullying Week' and winning staff in England were announced at a Parliamentary Event by the Minister for Children and Families, David Johnston MP. We are utterly delighted to tell you that our Head of Performing Arts, Mr Hampson, was awarded the prize for secondary school teachers in England.
