Extra Curricular

Lunch, Break and Before/After School Clubs

Extra Curricular Clubs Terms 5 and 6 2023/24

Homework Club: we run a daily homework club in E11 from 8.20-8.40am each morning. This is a chance for printing, a warm quiet space to complete work, and help if needed.

We continually review what clubs we can offer. If there is a club a group of students would particularly like to do, please email our Pastoral Lead KWindsor@fromecollege.org who will see if the activity is possible.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is offered at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels and is open to all students who want to take part. Click here for information about the Award at Frome College.

Exchanges and visits

Our French and German exchange programme is based on Frome’s twin towns, Chateau Gontier and Murrhardt.

We typically have an extensive programme of foreign visits every year. In past years these have included historical studies of the First World War Battlefields, Business Studies trips to Berlin, visits to art exhibitions in Amsterdam and Paris, Religion and Philosophy trips to Rome, skiing trips to various parts of Europe and Design Technology trips to Rome and Barcelona.

Educational visits within this country are regularly arranged by many curriculum teams. These include theatre visits for English and Drama, fieldwork for Geography and Biology, and more. Our link with Villiers Park Residential centre offers our A Level students opportunities for advanced study weeks. Kilver Court also offers opportunities for able students in a number of subject areas.

Music

Over 100 students have instrumental tuition in College with specialist visiting tutors - several students have passed Grade 8 with distinction. Where possible there is continuity of teacher between the Middle School and College.

These musicians help make up various music groups such as the College Band, String Ensemble, College Choir, Wind Group, the Sax group and String and Wind quartets. Typically, regular performances are held throughout the year.

The Arcoleo Music Bursary is to assist families in funding instrumental/vocal lessons for their child specifically those who are not considered Pupil Premium but may still struggle to afford lessons. Parents/Carers must be eligible and in receipt of child benefit to apply for this bursary.

Sport

We play competitive fixtures and cup competitions in many sports at local, county, national and international level.

An extensive programme of house competitions takes place in team sports and we have open competitions in individual sports such as squash and tennis.

Feedback from my child suggests they are really pleased with the approach from the teaching staff.
