Mission Statement

The Sixth Form at Frome College aims to equip our students with the skills, experiences and qualifications needed to succeed in the wider world. We offer a wide range of interesting Sixth Form subjects and courses including A levels, BTECs and Cambridge Technical qualifications. Within our safe and secure environment we want to foster an open-minded, curious and compassionate outlook in our students; helping them to make informed and intelligent decisions about their futures.

We challenge the ‘past equals future’ paradigm and believe that success in the Sixth Form is driven by a blend of high quality teaching and non-cognitive factors such as vision, effort, systems, practice and attitude; all of which must be coached and developed by teachers, tutors and fellow students.

Our staff promote intellectual risk-taking, personal responsibility and student leadership across the curriculum and wider enrichment programme.

We recognise that progress rarely follows a linear path and we want to support our students through the good times and the bad; the Sixth Form Team is on hand to offer help and advice when it is needed.

The Futures building is a separate building designated for Sixth Formers. Facilities include a large Common Room, Quiet Study Room, a large Computer Suite, plus a Café/Canteen for food and drinks at break and lunchtime. There is also an attractive outside area for use by Sixth Formers during warmer weather.

Finally, despite the increasing maturity and independence of our students, we value the on-going support of parents/carers and seek to ensure that they are fully informed and involved in the development of our students.Prospectus

Students Union

The Students Union executive is elected annually from those about to enter their final year in Sixth Form.

The President and Vice-President stand on a joint-ticket and campaign throughout June to win support for their leadership and vision for the Sixth Form. The winning President and Vice-President then call for nominations to a wider number of roles including Fundraising, Environment/Sustainability, and Arts Officers.

We support annual charity fundraisers such as Children in Need, Red Nose Day and other ad-hoc initiatives. Our students also represent the school at local commemorative events such as Remembrance Day.

Academic and Wellbeing Concerns

If you have a concern about your child’s academic progress in Sixth Form, or about any issue that may be affecting their wellbeing, please call us or email, we are here to help.

Your first point of contact should be your child’s Personal Tutor via email Post16office@fromecollege.org

My son is very happy so far and is responding well to the new and more mature learning environment.
