Transport to College

County transport will drop and pick up students at the main entrance (Princess Anne Road entrance). Students arriving by foot should also use this entrance. However, students living near to the Bath Road entrance or arriving by public transport at the bus stop outside of the Bath Road entrance may enter and exit safely by the small wooden gate which leads to an alternative entrance between the Maths Building and the Art and Science block. This entrance is open to students until 9am and reopens at 3pm. Students should not walk through the Bath Road entrance car park.

Free transport is provided for all pre-16 students who live more than three miles from the College.

How do I apply?

Via www.somerset.gov.uk. Please go to ‘School transport’ for information and guidance, or ‘Apply for school transport’ to begin the online application process.

Alternatively, phone Somerset County Council on 0300 123 2224 to apply.

Coach delayed?

If a coach is delayed by more than ten minutes students should ring the College on 01373 465353. In the unlikely event that a coach has not arrived in another twenty minutes, students should telephone the College a second time.

Coach broken down?

If a coach breaks down either on the way to, or home from the College, students must remain with the coach until a relief vehicle arrives, or until instructed to do otherwise by a person in authority e.g. police. Somerset County Council cannot accept responsibility for the safety of students who disobey this instruction.

The main entrance to Frome College for students and visitors is the Princess Anne Road entrance (next to the Leisure Centre). Between the hours of 8.30 – 9.00am and 2.45 – 3.15pm this area can become congested and parking is particularly difficult. We ask for your assistance in reducing the traffic on site during these times.

For the safety of our students, please may we request they are not dropped off or picked up from the Bath Road car park at the College. The security gates inside of this car park are closed during school hours.

Parents/carers visiting College must follow the signage and report to reception on arrival.

All students cycling to school must always arrive and depart using the Princess Anne Road (Leisure Centre) entrance. Cyclists must not use the Bath Road entrance.

Secure storage space is available for students who wish to cycle to College.

Cycles may not be ridden on College premises.

Cycles must be kept in a roadworthy condition and only be used by the owner.

Students are strongly encouraged to wear a helmet.

Feedback from my child suggests they are really pleased with the approach from the teaching staff.
